Purcell effect

The Purcell effect is the fundamental phenomenon that the density of modes around an emitter affects its spontaneous emission rate, enhancing or reducing it. In the former case, exacerbating the effect brings one in the strong-coupling regime.

Besides Purcell himself, an early realization in microcavity is from Ref. [1].
